Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the Plant Growth Regulation Society of America (PGRSA) I invite you to join us for the 38th Annual Meeting of the Plant Growth Regulation Society of America to be held at the InterContinental Chicago in Downtown Chicago Sunday July 24 to Thursday July 28, 2011.
The PGRSA Annual Meeting will provide many opportunities for professional development and networking, as well as the chance to present and to hear about the latest applied and basic plant research. Graduate students are particularly encouraged to present their work either orally or as a poster and have the chance to win student travel awards. In addition to the contributed papers/poster sessions, we have scheduled sessions on the cutting edge research on the Role of Hormones in Crop Stress, ABA Binding, and Flowering Physiology, 1-MCP and Crop Physiology, Advances in Citrus Abscission, and Advances in Potato Sprout Control in Storage, and updates on the latest on ABA, Turfgrass and Ornamentals research. You will hear presentations from leading researchers in plant biology and innovative scientists from the seed corn industry, horticulture, and agronomy.
Our meeting is relatively small which provides ample opportunity to meeting a broad spectrum of outstanding researchers and plant growth regulation industry people. The meeting is being scheduled to maximize time for interaction among attendees with complimentary light breakfasts in the mornings and complimentary receptions in the evenings while still leaving time for participants to enjoy Chicago.
Chicago is a wonderful city to visit. Our hotel, the InterContinental, is in downtown Chicago on fabulous Michigan Avenue, otherwise known as the Magnificent Mile. We will be right there in the midst of great shopping, outstanding food, and world class entertainment. Downtown Chicago has world renown restaurants including Charlie Trotter 's, Tru, and Blackbird. More affordable restaurants including Lou Malnati 's with Chicago Pizza and Hot Doug 's with Chicago Hot Dogs. Chicago theaters including the Second City Comedy Club and numerous music venues including the Metro, Hard Rock Café, House of Blues, Buddy Guy 's Legend, and other blues clubs are nearby. The beautiful Millennium Park and the popular Navy Pier are only a few blocks away. The Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, Adler Planetareum, the Shedd Aquarium, Chicago Children 's Museum and Chicago Museum of Science and Industry are all here. The John Hancock Building and the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) are within walking distance. Boat tours and walking tours of famous Chicago architectural landmarks are nearby. For baseball fans, the Chicago Cubs are in town at Wrigley Stadium on Sunday afternoon and the Chicago White Sox are at Cingular Field Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings (check the internet for tickets). Getting to downtown Chicago is easy. O 'Hare and Midway Airports are connected to downtown by CTA trains. Union Station is a central hub of Amtrak.
The PGRSA Annual Meeting is always a rewarding event, and Chicago is a great place to be. I invite everyone to downtown Chicago for a world class scientific meeting and a fantastic time.
